If we do not get rain soon the lake will reveal some of the great fishing locations you will be able to look at. The bass fishing has been slow, most fish are being caught shallow on spinners, flipping baits, and small crank baits. Early you can get a top water bite but, this is spotty at best. The White Bass are starting to school up for short periods of time. The Hybrids can be found around the White Bass, just a little deeper. White Bass and Hybrid fishing is fair to good, look in 23 to 50 foot and near drops. If you like night fishing I am hearing good reports on Smallmouth Bass on Black spinners right on the bank shallow, main lake area.

http://www.waypointguideservice.com

Belton Lake Fishing Report 6/27/2011

Belton Lake is a little over 4 foot low and dropping about 1 inch a day. Water temp is in the low 80's. Temple Lake Park flats have been a great place to find White bass and Hybrid's. Jigging spoons in white or chrome are working good. Early and late there has been some spotty top water action. Bass fishing is getting tuff, some early top water actions in the creeks, then it is time to concentrate on points 15 to 30 foot deep. I prefer a C-rig for these fish but, T-rig, shaky head jigs and heavy football jigs will also work. Spoon fishing will also produce good numbers of whites and Hybrids. Black bass fishing if fair, up river fish can be caught on white/chart spinner baits, square bill cranks and flipping. The bass have began to transition to their deep summer locations. The lake is still low, 4 foot and slowly falling. The construction on the dam is not complete at this time and the Corp is not letting out any water. The lack of current is preventing the bass from setting up on the deep structure. They are suspending off the structure. Some good fish are still being caught on the structure, just not as many as years past. The Hybrid Striped Bass are good. TSA held it's tournament last week and it took 16.5 pounds on two fish to win. Big fish was 8.5 and they came on live shad off the sand flats. The main lake flats, Temple Lake Park is seeing a lot of Hybrids and Whites moving across with the shad. Slab spoons and live bait (shad or perch) will catch the Hybrid Striped Bass. Belton has a great population of small (10 to 16 inch) Hybrid Striped Bass so be careful if you are keeping White Bass to not confuse these fish. Look on the tooth patch on every fish you keep and if it has a white split line on the tooth patch it is a Hybrid, put it back in the lake.

http://www.waypointguideservice.com/

Belton Lake Fishing Report 3/23/2011

Belton Lake is still 3 foot low due to dam construction. Surface water temp on the main lake around 59 and up to 68 in the creeks. The large female Bass have began to move up and can be caught on secondary points in the creeks. I have seen just a few beds so far but feel they will move up very soon. My guide trip produced 1 five pound bass on a weightless Sinko Watermelon Red 5", 1 4.5 Bass on a C-rig watermelon red Fluke in 4 foot on a point, 1 four pound bass on a point on the same C-rig on a point and a few 3 and 2 pound bass on the above as well as T-rigged Baby Brush Hogs in watermelon red. I would start in the back of the creeks and work out at this time of the year with any of the above baits until you start catching them. The Hybrids and White Bass have been very active across form BLORA on the bluffs and just above the Sand Flats. I have had a good deal of success on these fish on jigging spoons.

Belton Lake Fishing Report 02/24/2011

Belton Lake remains low, about 3 foot below normal pool. The lake was keep low to do repairs on the dam, they replaced the rocks on the face of the dam, and now they are doing work on the outlet below the dam. I look for the lake to rise should we get any rain because they are not letting out any water during these repairs. The water temperature has recovered from the 43 degrees we had after the last freezing cold blast. The main lake is around 52 to 55 in the morning and I have been finding up to 65 in the backs of the northern creeks. Some good fish have been caught in Stampede, Owl and Cedar Creeks on spinner baits and flipping jigs and plastic. The small mouth fishing has been slow on the main lake for the last two weeks. I look for fishing to improve greatly over the next two weeks. I have many open dates in March and April, now is the time to book your spring trip to Belton.

Waypoint Guide Service

WayPoint Marker

Belton Lake Fishing Report 01/19/11

The construction on the dam is almost complete and the lake should start to return to normal level with the recent and coming rains. Small-mount and Largemouth Bass can be caught on brown/black or red/black crank-baits and lip-less crank-baits. White spinner bait, and dark jigs are also a good choice now. Concentrate in 1 to 10 foot on main lake points and secondary points to find the pre-spawn bass. White bass and Hybrid bass are very active from Temple Lake Park up the Cowhouse and up to the 36 bridge. The easiest way to find these fish is to look for the gulls and fish in the areas the gulls are working, 1 ounce spoons will catch the fish hopped off the bottom and some times off the bottom. Use your electronics to determine the depth to fish the spoons. Until next time good luck and be sure to check out my web pages below.

www.waypointguideservice.com

www.waypointmarkers.com

Belton Lake fishing report11/26/2010

With each of the fronts that have been coming in the fishing is improving. The lake is 4 foot low and surface temp of 63. Most fish are moving into the 1 to 10 foot depth range. Crank baits in brown crawdad or chrome blue, white spinner baits and green/brown jigs are working on the rock banks in coves. The White Bass and Hybrids are active from Temple Lake Park to the 36 bridge. I have been catching lots of 16 inch Hybrids on Temple Lake Park mixed in with the White Bass. Catching was amazing yesterday, by myself and caught over 200 white bass, 13 Hybrids (1 over 18 inches) 9 Black Bass (6 were over 14 inches) and a couple of cats and crappie all on spoons in 28 foot of water. Fishing should remain great up to the next full moon, with the bit being better in the after noon time frame.

Hogge's Guide Service

Belton Lake Fishing Report 10/13/10

The surface temp is 74 and the fish are bitting good. This is were the big bass are to be found. Early in the morning smaller to keeper size bass can be caught on clear Spook Jr. on main lake points up to the sand flats. Hybrid Striped Bass are good on live bait and jigging spoons in 40 to 50 foot just off Temple Lake Flats or in 30 to 35 up on the flats early and late. Small schools of white bass can be found breaking the supface throughout the lake but these are short lived, a chrome blue rattle trap will work well on these fish.

WayPoint Guide Service

Belton Lake Fishing Report 06/01/2010

Bass fishing slowed a little last week with the full moon. The Bass are now in their summer pattern. Crank Baits, football jigs, slow rolled spinners and of course the C-rig are good choices to catch these fish in 12 to 20 foot deep on points near flats. During the day the shad are moving up on the flats and the Bass will follow, look for schooling or chasing Bass on the flats. The Hybrid and White Bass remain good in 30 to 45 foot on Temple Lake Park Flat, and across from Sparta Valley Park, also doing good around Bull Branch. Live shad will get you some great Hybrids but these fish can still be caught on slab spoons. Good Luck, to Bass Champs contestants this month.

WayPoint Guide Service

Belton Lake Fishing Report 05/09/10

Belton remains great fishing, lake is two foot low due to the repairs on the dam. The Black and Smallmouth Bass are in shallow water and can be caught many different ways, Pop-r's or flukes early on points. The lake was up almost 11 foot over pool 3 weeks ago. The Corp. has been pulling and is still pulling a lot of water out of the lake. The surface temp is 48 on the main lake and 53 in the backs of the creeks up north on the lake. Fishing has been slow, the small mouth are biting on main lake point, crank baits and c-rigged baby brush hogs have worked for me the lake week. With the coming warmer weather and the lake stabilizing at normal level the fishing should become outstanding. I look for fishing to improve greatly over the next two weeks. I have many open dates in March and April, now is the time to book your spring trip to Belton.

WayPoint Guide Service

WayPoint Marker

Belton Lake Fishing Report 09/0709

Belton Lake bass fishing is very good, today my client and I had over 20 pounds with our best five bass, the largest just over 6 lbs. Get out on Belton and give the bass fishing a try, It is as good as I have seen it for this time of year.

Good Luck

WayPoint Guide Service

WayPoint Markers

Belton Lake Fishing Report 07/19/09

Fishing on Belton Lake has been some of the best fishing this year. There have been numerious tournaments with over 20 pounds to win. The fish have settled into the summer patterns. Look for fish deep 15 to 30 foot on points and humps. Rock is the key to catching the larger fish. I expect to see some big fish moving shollow durring the mid day chasing shad. Every summer you can find some big fish move up durring the heat of the day on the large schools of shad that move over the shollow points and flats. I am fishing a Carolina rigged Smoking Blue Zoom Centipeed and a Watermellon Seed Baby Brush Hog to catch these fish. When you see the shollow action you can move in on these fish and use the C-Rig, the noise the large sinker makes brings these fish over to investigate and will take your bait. Good luck on Belton!

waypointguideservice.com

waypointmarkers.com

Belton Lake Fishing Report 05/30/10

Belton lake is on fire right now.

Belton Lake fishing report 9/23/08

Smallmouth and black bass up to 5 pounds on small spinner baits on the main lake early. Bass on Belton can always be caught shallow when the lake is above normal pool flipping the buck brush, lay-down cedars or willow trees. White bass have been spotty on surface, and good on jigging spoons in 25 to 35 feet deep. Several Hybrid are being caught with the Whites but, most are under size. Be sure if you are keeping these fish that you know the difference between a white and a hybrid.
